Mr. Boyd M. Bauguess, age 81 went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 27, 2017, due to complications after suffering a stroke.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Thursday, Aug 31, 2017, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. A service of celebration will be held at 11 am Friday, September 1 also at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Pastors John Harrell and Clint Pressley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Mr. Bauguess was born July 20, 1936 in Wilkes County, NC, a son of the late Vestal and Vertie Bauguess. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and their wives, Kenneth Bauguess and wife, Judy, Kelly Bauguess and wife, Betty.
Boyd grew up in the Traphill community outside of North Wilkesboro. He graduated from Traphill High School where he played basketball and drove a school bus. Boyd loved attending his class reunions and kept in touch with many of his classmates. In 1957 he went to work for the Charlotte Fire Department. He started at station #9 and retired from station #3 in 1989. He also served 10 years on the Fire Department Credit Union Bank Board. He was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving on various committees. In earlier years, he loved to play golf, go to the beach and travel with his wife. He served our country in the Army Reserves for 13 years and was a former member of the Mint Hill Masonic Lodge #742.
In 2003, he suffered a spinal cord injury which sidelined him for a while, but didn’t stop him. From his hard work, the dedication of his wife, support and prayers from lots of family and friends, he was able to enjoy 13 more years of life, while in a wheel chair. Boyd has been such an inspiration to so many people. He was a true southern gentleman who loved God, country and family. The memories and friendships made, will last forever.
Those left to cherish Boyd’s memory are his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Joyce C. Bauguess; son, Andy Bauguess of Harrisburg; daughters, Rina Wilkinson and husband, Heilig of Concord and Dayna Allmon and husband, Billy of Harrisburg; grandsons, Ansley Burkhalter and wife, Jessica, Jacob Burkhalter and wife, Ashley of Midland, Eric Burkhalter of Concord and Garrison Boyd Allmon of Harrisburg; great-granddaughter, Destiny Burkhalter; several close cousins; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends and of course, his feline companion, Buttons.
