Mr. Bobby Ray Widenhouse, known to many as “Hardrock” passed away at Avante of Concord on Monday, February 1, 2016.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, February 5, 2016 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Randy Wall. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service.
Bobby was born on April 7, 1928 in Concord to the late William J. Widenhouse and Etta Spears Widenhouse. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean B. Widenhouse; brothers, Bill, Jack and Gene Widenhouse; sisters, Ruth Jones and Carolyn Pethel.
He was owner and operator of Widenhouse House Movers, Inc. and a member of Ann St. United Methodist Church. Bobby was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict at Fort Jackson, SC.
He had many hobbies throughout his life. As a young man, he loved dirt track racing with his brothers and watching Nascar. He built cannons which became a tradition at Concord Spiders football games. He loved to build huge sandcastles at the beach for his family. Later on he built light houses after watching the moving of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. And he also loved to dance.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Widenhouse Jordan and husband, Monty; grandchildren, Laurin Perkins, Amanda Jordan, Kristen Jordan; great-grandson, Wyatt Perkins; brother, Dink Widenhouse; sister, Elizabeth Eudy; sister-in-law, Janice Britt who helped with his care; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Avante for their love and care for him, which is gratefully appreciated.
