Bobby James Albert Overcash June 26, 1931-November 17, 2021
Bobby was born in Davidson, NC the son of the late William B. and Cecile S. Overcash. He attended Davidson elementary school and graduated from North Mecklenburg High School. He graduated from Davidson College in 1956 with a BA in business and obtained a master’s in education from UNC-Greensboro in 1969.
Bobby left Davidson and moved to Concord, NC to begin a 39-year career with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, retiring as office manager. His office earned several state and local awards for services provided. It conducted much initial applicant screening for Cannon Mills. Another notable service for the community was screening for initial hiring for Philip Morris when it opened a manufacturing plant in Concord. His office processed approximately 25,000 applications and tested approximately 15,000 people for an initial hire of 1000 employees.
Bobby was a member of several professional organizations including the NC State Employees Association, and the N C Workforce Professionals, in which he served as District Representative and President. He was elected into the hall of fame for that organization and was recognized as a retiree of the year.
Bobby was active in the community and church. He is a past director of the Concord Jaycees, and member and Director of the Concord Chamber of Commerce. During his time with the Chamber he was integral in support of Cabarrus County becoming part of the now Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Bobby served on the board of Cabarrus County Home Health. He was a Concord High School band parent and served as a bus driver for students. He was also a long-time member of the Concord Rotary Club where he served as Secretary-Treasurer for 30 years and also as Assistant Sergeant-At-Arms. He received recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow and Concord Rotarian of the Year.
He was a charter member of the Cabarrus County Christian Business Men’s Committee. He was a long-time member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Davidson, NC where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Elder, Treasurer, Secretary, and Clerk of Session. He later became a member of Forest Hill UMC in Concord.
Bobby is also predeceased by his wife, Pearl Gilbert Overcash, brothers Ray and Charlie, and sister Silvadean “Deanie” Overcash Brannon. He is survived by sons Allen (Becky) and Dan (fiancée Julianne), grandchildren Brittany and Josh Overcash, and step-granddaughter LaRaine Lentz Marino (Joe), great-granddaughter Rebecca Jean Marino, and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friend and adventure companion Kay Chaney.
Visitation and service will be held Tuesday November 23, 2021 at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, 265 Union St. N, Concord NC 28025. Family will receive friends beginning at noon until 1:30 PM. Service will be at 1:30 PM. A service of committal will be held at Mimosa cemetery in Davidson, NC at 4:00 PM.

The family is deeply grateful for the care provided to Bobby and the family by Hospice.
