CONCORD- Mr. Billy (Bill) Gene Gaskey passed away on Saturday August 24, 2019 at Brian Center Cabarrus at the age of 88.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Parkwood Baptist Church from 1:30 to 3 pm. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm with Rev. Michael Waters officiating. Inurnment will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens.
Bill was born Cabarrus County on October 10, 1930 to the late Alphie & Douglas Gaskey.
He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Jane Gamble Gaskey to whom he was married 67 years until her passing in 2014; son David Gaskey; his brothers, Ernest, Marshall, Jessie, Floyd, Don, Howard, Harold and twin brother Bob; and sisters, Annie Jacobs, Fannie Mae Price, Virginia Rowell, Betty Stairs and Mary Alice Tucker.
Bill was educated in Cabarrus County and worked for Cannon Mills until 1971 and 1971 to 1995 for Troutman Homes. For many years he was Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 40 at Bayless Presbyterian Church in Concord. Bill was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church and a member of the B3 Sunday School Class that he loved dearly.
Bill was a loving family man who adored his children and grandchildren. He loved for everyone to be together as much as possible. He loved sitting outside at the Brian Center and greet everyone as they came in and roaming the halls and singing. He made so many new friends in the last 20 months that he was a resident there.
The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at the Brian Center for the excellent loving care he received while there, Dr. Douglas Kelling for his care and support for over 35 years, and the Sanger Heart Group for their support.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Pamela Smith and husband, Mark, son Darrell and wife, Sabina, adopted son and daughter, Catalin & Eleanor Roman; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Cook (Chris), Jeremy Smith (Jessica), Joseph Gaskey (Kathrine), Isabella and Constantine Gaskey, Vlad Roman, April Samples, & Melanie Gass (Jeff); great grandchildren, Makenna & Maci Smith who loved being with Poppa at the Brian Center, also Tyler Samples and Sam Gass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Parkwood Baptist Church Building Fund at 1069 Central Drive, Concord, NC 28027.
