Mrs. Billie S. Smith, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2018 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, May 23 at Eastside Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. William Perkins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday night at Wilkinson Funeral Home.

Billie was born on July 4, 1941 in Cabarrus Co. to the late Marvin Wallace Smith and Elizabeth Severt Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Smith; sisters, Gail Sloop, Phyllis Smith; brother, Wallace Smith.

Billie was a longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church where she was in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a leader of “Prayer Warriors”. She also was a member of Odell Girls, Class of 59, The NC Assoc. for Long-Term Care, and Cabarrus Democratic Party. Billie enjoyed writing poetry, travelling, and looking over family history, especially photo albums. She had worked for many years at Country Home Assisted Living as activity director.

She is survived by her sons, Charles “Chuck” W. Hatley (Judy McCord), Daniel A. Hatley (Kathy), Charles “Chip” R. Hatley (Margaret); special companion, Warren Burris; grandchildren, Daniel Hatley Jr. (Jessica), Sarah Hatley (Jason Brown), Melissa Craven (Shannon); great-grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Hatley, Layla Beth Brown, Bennett Chase Hatley.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church-Youth Program, 199 Elgin Dr. NE, Concord, NC 28025.
