Beverly Hughes

September 10, 1938 — March 19, 2023

Beverly Jean Neeley Hughes passed away peacefully on March 19, 2023. In her final days, Beverly was surrounded by many who loved her. Family, friends, and her caregivers all were touched by her impact here on earth. To know Beverly was to love her. She had a presence where she was and a heart of gold. She was a devoted Christian woman, faithful wife, mother, Nana, Aunt Bambi, and simply remarkable friend to so many.

Beverly was born September 10, 1938 in Prestonsburg Kentucky. She and her husband Charles William Hughes were married in 1954 and lived most of their lives in Newport News Virginia where they raised their two children, Susan and Chuck. Beverly was a faithful Christian woman who always put family first.

Beverly is survived by her son, Charles William Hughes Jr., her son in law, W. Keith Wilson, three grandchildren, Stacy Wilson Beard and husband, Will Beard, Ashley Wilson DeWeese and husband, Bryan DeWeese, Chad William Wilson and wife, Kellee Wilson, and her 4 beloved great grandchildren, Drew and Jack Beard and Lilly and Conner Wilson. Beverly is preceded in death by her husband Charles William Hughes and her daughter Susan Hughes Wilson.

Spending time with family, vacationing and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, attending church and volunteering at church, reading her bible, playing cards (rummy and spades), and shopping were some of her favorite things to do. The last 7 years she has lived in Concord and enjoyed going to great grandchildren’s sporting events, beach trips to Ocean Isle, trips to Blowing Rock, and so much more. She always loved a good pizza and a taco from Taco Bell. She would never turn down an extra hot caramel macchiato from Starbucks with a side of pound cake.

Beverly always had a green thumb and loved spending time in her garden and flower beds. She always had flower beds that turned heads and she loved caring for them. Always baking or cooking for those she loved, we all have our “Nana favorites”. She was an unbelievable cook! She taught us to love the Lord, save money and make a dollar go a LONG way, love our family unconditionally, and showed us what true strength was when times got tough. She is truly one of the kindest, strongest women to walk this earth. We will continue to celebrate her life and honor her as she would want us to. Her passion for life and love for the Lord and love for our family was evident every day. We are so blessed to have called her Mom, Nana, and friend.

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Andrews Living Center and Hospice of Cabarrus County for making her final days full of joy, pain free with fabulous care.
