Beulah Thorson

December 16, 1932 — October 2, 2023

Mrs. Beulah Anne Boston Thorson, of Concord, NC, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023, at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family at Hospice of Union County. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, Beulah brought love, warmth, and laughter to the lives of everyone she knew.

Beulah was born on December 16, 1932, in Roanoke, VA, to the late Madie Ann Hoffman Boston and Jesse Scott Boston. A graduate of Westhampton College - University of Richmond, Beulah pursued successful careers as both a social worker and a real estate agent. Her dedication and passion for helping others were evident in every aspect of her life. She met her husband Al while she was living in Roanoke after college and he was stationed as a Marine Corps aviator in Edenton, North Carolina. They fell in love and were married in December of 1957, spending the next 55 years happily married until Al’s passing in 2013. She found immense joy in spending time with her family, travelling and playing golf with her husband, donating her time to the church, and took great pleasure in being a grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Glen Thorson, Junior. She was also the last surviving of eleven siblings including sisters Eloise Wright, Pearl Divers, Lillian Brinkman, Arabella Townsend, Bessie West, and Dorothy Mason; and brothers Jesse Boston Jr., Leslie Boston, Jamie Boston, and John Boston.

Beulah is survived by her daughter, Terry Cox and husband, Penn of Charlotte; daughter Carol Chalmers and husband, Doug of Savannah, GA; and son, Tom Thorson and wife, Holly of Seattle, WA. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Drew Chalmers of Austin, TX; Haley Chalmers of New York, NY; and Brad Thorson and Katie Thorson, both of Seattle, WA, as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Beulah's legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her greatest pride was in her family. She was devout in her faith and a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Concord. She was deeply patriotic and proud of her country and all that served, including her brothers and husband. She will be deeply missed and remembered for the grace, compassion, and kindness she showed to everyone around her, but mostly for her smile that she shared with all.

During this time of sorrow, let us remember our sweet Beulah with smiles, for she brought immense joy to our lives. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her love continue to inspire and guide us.
