Bertie Mcanulty

June 2, 1927 — January 9, 2016

Bertie Penninger McAnulty was born on June 2, 1927 in Concord, NC and went to join her beloved husband Ken of 63 years in her Heavenly home January 9, 2016. Bertie was the daughter of the late Victor Caldwell and Elizabeth Barbee Penninger. She is survived by her loving daughter Karen and husband Danny Wyke and also a son Dennis and wife Debbie McAnulty. Bertie had two wonderful and caring grandsons, Ben Wyke and wife Holly, and their children, Palmer and Harper of Concord and grandson, Hunter Wyke and wife Erin of Charlotte.
Bertie was a dedicated member and hard worker of New Gilead Reformed Church. She was recognized for her 30 plus years of faithful and dedicated service as Church Secretary from 1969-1999. Her passion was keeping records of the history of her church and she was instrumental in putting together the Historical Room at New Gilead. In addition to her Church service she retired from Cabarrus County School System as a Teacher’s Assistant. Also, she and Ken owned and operated M&M Grocery for 36 years where they made many wonderful memories and friends in the Concord community. Bertie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 181 for many years.
For the past two years, Bertie made her home at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis, NC where she served on the Resident Council as President and shared her love for the Lord with residents and patients. Big Elm residents and their families were her extended family.
Bertie’s memorial service will be held at New Gilead Reformed Church, 2400 Old Salisbury-Concord Rd. on Wednesday, January 13 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Honorary Guests for the service will be the staff of Big Elm Nursing Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to New Gilead Reformed Church, Big Elm Nursing Center, or to Tucker Hospice House.
