Barbara Kay Alley Johnson of Concord, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, peacefully, in her home.
Barbara was born January 23, 1942 in Concord to the late George W. Alley and Mary Lois Holland Alley. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George “Ick” Alley (Laura Young Alley). Barbara graduated from Concord High School and attended Western Carolina University. She worked at Concord High School, Central United Methodist Church, and later went to work at the Clerk of Court’s office where she retired after many years.
Barbara was a devoted daughter, mother, cousin and friend. She also embraced her daughter’s friends as her own. She was a faithful caregiver to her mother, Lois Alley for many years. Barbara was known for her kind, gentle spirit. She was a loving dog owner and had a passion for dog rescue. She loved completing challenging crossword puzzles, chocolate and sharing a great laugh and meal with friends and family. Over her life she traveled to the Caribbean and Central America, and more recently loved spending time with her daughter exploring Florida.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Erin Johnson (Larry Hayes) of Florida and by a number of other family members. She was loved by so many and will be missed beyond words.
The family is particularly grateful for the exceptionally compassionate care Barbara received from Angie Caldwell and team. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at Epworth United Methodist Church at 11:00AM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
