Barbara Cory Davis

Barbara Angell Davis, 94, passed away January 6, 2018 at the Stewart Health Center, The Cypress of Charlotte, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 13th at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Lincolnton, NC with The Reverend Rosa Erickson officiating. The burial will be immediately following the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 pm in the Parish House at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Born on February 19, 1923 in Montana, she was the daughter of the late Earle Fiske Angell and Edna Groff Ridout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Fiske Angell, her sister Jane Angell Ridout, her husband Rueben Lyle Ford, her son Robert Angell Ford and her husband of 44 years Dr. Joe V. Davis, Jr.

She is survived by her niece Jane Angel Metts and her daughter Sarah Jane Ford; her step-daughters Grace Moore Davis and Amy Davis Rinker(Bill); her daughter-in-law Gretchen Weig Ford; grandsons Jacob Weig Ford (Carlene), Daniel Robson Ford (Jennifer), Clark Davis Hawfield, Samuel Dalton Hawfield, William Edwin Rinker, Jr. (Jennifer), Amanda Rinker Williamson (Eric) and great-grandchildren Caroline Price Rinker, Laura Davis Rinker, Amanda Jane Williamson, Annadelia Jane Ford, Althea Frances Ford, Adeline Autumn Ford and Callahan Angell Ford.

Barbara grew up in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, attended Converse College, and later studied at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill once planning to be a French teacher. She worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines, taught dance to children and youth, and mastered the art of needlework early in life.

She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord, NC, the Ruth Coltrane Cannon Garden Club, the Ethel R. Williams Book Club, the Santee Country Club and the Cabarrus Country Club.

Barbara celebrated a good round of golf both as a player and as a fan. She was an enthusiastic traveler with family and friends, and once made the trip to Saint Andrews Old Course in Scotland to play golf. She was at ease on the ballroom dance floor, enjoyed sailing her Sunfish on Lake Norman, and graciously welcomed many golfers and friends to her home in Concord and Santee. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Luke’s Historic Preservation Fund, 315 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC.
