Aubrey Ramseur Hoover, III (88) passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on May 22, 2017. He was born in Charlotte, NC, on January 31, 1929 to Aubrey Ramseur Hoover, Jr. and Elizabeth Bright Hoover. He attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN and then graduated from Admiral Farragut Military Academy in St. Petersburg, FL. At Admiral Farragut, he studied aviation and naval science and discovered a lifelong love for boating and sailing. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, but he cut his architectural studies short to return home to the family business at the Hoover Hosiery Mills in Concord. He then served in the United States Army at Fort Rucker Army Base, outside of Dothan, AL.
After his service, Aubrey spent many years as a traveling salesman, first with RCA Victor Records and then with the Hyster Company, where he retired as a sales manager. In his retirement, Aubrey purchased Ephraim Marsh Company, a mail-order furniture catalog company, which was operated by the family until the early 2000s.
After meeting at North Myrtle Beach in 1948 as teenagers, he and Patrica Ann Reid of Lowell, NC were married in 1951. They have been married for 66 years. A doting husband, father, and grandfather, Aubrey was happiest at his house at Lake Norman, where he would take his grandchildren sailing and put his woodworking skills to good use. After marriage, Aubrey proceeded to spend one year between working hours to build their contemporary dream home where they raised their family and entertained their many friends. Aubrey was a longstanding member of the Concord Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife Pat of Concord, NC, his daughter Marietta Hoover McEachern and her husband Dennis Harold McEachern of Cherry Grove, SC and their twin sons Aubrey Hoover McEachern of Charlotte, NC and Patrick Dennis McEachern, a Lieutenant in the medical corps of the United States Navy, and his daughter Patricia Reid Hoover of Concord, NC and her son William (Bill) Lee Mills, IV and his wife Jennifer Donohue Mills of Charlotte, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, May 26th at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive guests after the services at Fellowship House.
The family wishes to thanks to Carolinas Palliative Care and Hospice, the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center of Salisbury, NC and all his other caregivers, especially Dr. Douglas Kelling for his personal care and family support.
