Mrs. Frederick J. Slaughter, (Anne), 90, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 am, Saturday, July 9, 2016 at All Saints Episcopal Church, officiated by The Rev. Nancy Cox. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
Mrs. Slaughter was born on May 5, 1926, in Augusta, GA to the late Charles B. and Margaret Bedingfield Lanier. She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick J. Slaughter, a daughter, Anne Randall Murphy, a sister, Rebecca B. Lanier, and a brother, Charles B. Lanier, Jr.
Mrs. Slaughter's passion was her family, first and foremost. Anne was a homemaker and dearly loved the parenting years. She also was very creative as she thoroughly enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family and was very active in the Episcopal Church.
Later in her life, Anne became active in real estate, selling residential properties and later achieving a broker's license. Anne enjoyed restoring older residential properties with her latest being a historic cottage near Helen, Georgia. With Anne's love of nature, she instinctively inspired a deep love of all nature in her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Douglas D. Schoonmaker, Jr., (Ellen); daughter, Catherine S. Wright; Bonnie S. Compton; grandchildren: Addie S. Pritchard (Mark), Lanier S. Spell, R. Douglas Wright, Jr. (Lauren), Catherine N. Powers (Alex), Anne B. Compton, Catherine C. Wedge (Rob), D. Hansen Murphy (Christina), Sarah B. Murphy, Christian S. Murphy; and 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorials be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 525 Lake Concord Road, Concord, NC 28025.
