Amy Snipes

Amy Jane Greer Snipes 79 of Concord lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer on Friday, October 15, 2021. Born October 6, 1942 in Concord to the late Jessie Hopkins and Margaret Sides Greer. She was a 1960 graduate of Harrisburg High School and a graduate of Evans Business School. Amy began her career in the early 70’s as an administrative assistant to the Dean of Students and later to Dr. Mabel P. McLean, President of Barber Scotia College. In the mid 1980's Amy went to work at First Charter National Bank in the Human Resources Department. In 1996 when Dr. Sammie Potts returned to Concord to take the position as President of Barber Scotia College, it was her friendship with him and her great love for the college that led her back home (as she called it) to be his assistant, where she would remain until her retirement.

Amy was a great mother, grandmother and friend to all. She never met a stranger and would always go out of her way to help someone in need. She loved animals especially cats, birds and butterflies. In healthier years, she always took in stray cats, kept many bird feeders filled and she always planted flowers and bushes that would attract butterflies. She loved the beauty of nature and being outside was her paradise.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Julie Snipes Fitch and husband, Keith of Concord; grandson, Hayden Keith Fitch of Concord; sister, Libby Greer Barrier and husband, Gary of Mt. Pleasant; niece, Amy Barrier Altshul of West Chester, PA; nephew, Jess F. Barrier and wife, Jill of Mt. Pleasant; and special cousins, Melissa Sides, Joanna Lipe, Johnny & Janet Cline, Susan & Gene Swaringen; Great nieces and nephews, Austin & Alyssa Barrier, Ethan, Zachary & Alice Altshul.

The family will receive friends on Sunday October 17,2021 from 4-6 PM at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Tamara Wensil, will be held 3 PM Graveside Monday at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery in Concord.
