Alice White

August 1, 1949 — April 14, 2018

Mrs. Alice Mills White, formerly Alice Grey passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2018.

A memorial service will be 10 AM Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Edward Scott. The family will receive friends following the service.

Alice was born August 1, 1949 in Concord, to Annie Lee Davis Mills and the late Roy D. Mills.

Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of the shyness of her youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.

She attended Winecoff High School and graduated in 1967 from the first graduating class of Northwest Cabarrus High School. Alice graduated from UNCG in 1971 and received her M. ED from UNCC. She taught at Winecoff Elementary School for over a decade and later established Concord Wholesale Greenhouses, growing the largest calla lilies in the southeast.

Alice was devoted to her family, a consummate mother and grandmother and enjoyed hosting large family holidays. She had a reassuring way of always being there when you needed her. She was dedicated to her family and passionate about gardening, painting, and sewing.

In addition to her mother, Alice is survived by her husband, Ray C. White; sister, Audree Lee (Bill) Blaikie of Advance; son, Michael (Kelly) Grey of Concord; daughter, Stephanie (Cameron) Moore of Concord; stepson, Lt. Col. Jeffrey White of Huntsville, Alabama; stepson, Michael White of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, Aiden, Zoe, Maya, and Kellan; Eli, Julia, William, and Benjamin; Madison and Chloe.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
