CHARLOTTE- Alfreda Fuller-Simmons, 53, who dedicated her life to family and public service, was called home by her heavenly Father on November 22, 2024. Born at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia on November 2, 1971, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Pelzer Fuller and the late Alfred Fuller.
She was joined in holy matrimony to her husband and soulmate Keith Stafford Simmons on June 14, 1997. From their union was born one child, Nigel Alexander Simmons, who was the center of her world. Alfreda's love and pride for Nigel were boundless, and no conversation with her ended without mention of her son. She was also a devoted caregiver to her mother Ruth who prior to her passing in 2010 lived with Alfreda and Keith in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Alfreda was grounded in life by unyielding faith in the Lord. Kindness, generosity and good humor were the hallmarks of her character, and they were evident in her infectious laugh. She took great joy in opening her home to her nieces, nephew and cousins for summertime visits.
Afreda attended Claflin University where she earned a bachelor's degree in sociology. She went on to earn a master's degree in counseling from Webster University. Professionally she served as an intake coordinator for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, up until the time of her passing.
In her early years Alfreda attended elementary school St. Peter's School in Philadelphia and later graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Willingboro, New Jersey. Among her fondest childhood memories were vacations to Hawaii with her parents. She was an avid swimmer, a dog lover and a lifelong fan of Prince. The youngest of 21 grandchildren of Clyde C. and Ruth Pelzer, she was beloved by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her husband and son, Alfreda is survived by a nephew, Alexander Pelzer, nieces Jillian and Bailey Pelzer, sisters-in-law Bonita Pelzer, Leslie Pelzer, Andrea Simmons, Valerie Pierre (Jeffrey), brother-in-law Earl Simmons Jr., and numerous other nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts. She was predeceased by two elder brothers, Augustus Pelzer and Winston (Winnie) Fuller.
