Mr. Aime P. “Joe” Valin, age 96 and 8 months, of Harrisburg, NC went to be with Jesus on Sunday night October 29, 2017. He passed away at the Brian Center in Concord, where he had been for 9 days. He lived with his loving family in Harrisburg since March 2008.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Fregeau Valin on August 30, 2005; daughter, Suzanne Valin on Oct. 26, 2017; granddaughter, Mary Gordon on Jan. 30, 2015, and his 4 siblings, Blanche Marcotte, Adrian Valin, Lucien Valin and Laura Mandeville. He was the last of 5 children of the late Louis Aime and Adele Toupin Valin. He was born in Woonsocket, RI and moved to Kannapolis in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 and honorably discharged from the Korean War in 1951. He was a longtime, lifetime Red Sox fan.
Joe was the loving father of Roland J. Valin and his wife, Dale of Harrisburg; his daughter, Diane Ogden and her husband, William of Salisbury; and grandson Alan Bentley of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 139 Manor Avenue SW, Concord, NC 28025. A mass will follow at 2 p.m. with Father Jerome Chavarria C.Ss.R. officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery on Gold Hill Road.
