Agatha Marie Eury

April 21, 1934 — March 15, 2017

Agatha Marie Rose Eury, 82, known and loved by many as “Aggie,” passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Avanté at Concord after four years of declining health.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Concord. She will be laid to rest following the service at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Concord. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord.
Mrs. Eury was born Agatha Marie Rose in New Bern, N.C., on April 21, 1934, the eighth of nine children born to Furney and Nancy Rose. A 1952 graduate of New Bern High School, she was introduced by a mutual friend to Ray H. Eury of Concord, whom she wed on June 19, 1954. Relocating to Concord, Aggie began a long career in the offices of Kerr Bleachery, where the young bride was mentored by businesswomen Rachel Watson and Bess Keller. After Kerr’s destruction by fire in 1979, Aggie was hired to work in the office of Concord Warehousing, where she remained employed until her retirement. In her later years just prior to her illness, she worked part-time as a caregiver for Home Instead, becoming a beloved companion to several senior citizens during the last years of their lives. A loyal member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church, Aggie and her husband Ray were known for years as Sunday School teachers and the hosts of the coffee and doughnuts fellowship after the Sunday 8:00 a.m. mass. She was equally renown for her talents as a seamstress, for years sewing many of her business ensembles as well as mending clothing for family and friends and even creating costumes upon occasion, and for her cooking, taking great joy in “feeding the flock” a bounty of scrumptious Southern dishes. A movie buff from childhood, Aggie adored mid-century cinema and found no television station more enticing than Turner Classic Movies.
Aggie was preceded in death by her husband, Ray H. Eury, her parents, and six siblings.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Mickey) Eury and wife Rose, and John S. Eury, of Concord; and two brothers, Hershel Rose (and wife Carol) of Berlin, Md., and John Rose of New Bern. While she had no grandchildren of her own, numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, and children of friends over the years came to love their smiling, cheerful “Aunt Aggie.” Mrs. Eury’s sons and daughter-in-law wish to thank the kind, caring staff at Avanté at Concord and Hospice of Cabarrus County for so passionately caring for their mother.
