Obituary for Rebekah Ewart

Rebekah Ewart
Mrs. Rebekah Little Ewart passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, surrounded by her children.

A native of Concord, Mrs. Ewart also lived in Greenville, SC and Gastonia. She was the daughter of Hoyle Judge Little of Stanfield, and Lora Winecoff Little of Concord. She is survived by her children Mary Kathryn and Jonathan Michael, and her brother Thomas Michael Little, all of Concord. Mrs. Ewart was preceded in death by her parents, her husband D. Kirk Ewart, and son William Gaines Ewart, III.

A visitation will be held at Wilkinson Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, July 20, 2018. Services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Davis Hall at First Presbyterian Church. A private committal preceded these services.

While her heart was a Concord Spider, Mrs. Ewart is a graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, SC, Gaston College in Dallas, and Appalachian State University in Boone.

A lifelong educator, Mrs. Ewart began her teaching career by teaching English at Northwest Cabarrus High School in Concord. She left teaching to raise her three children. Mrs. Ewart later served as Executive Director of the United Way agency Help Line. Realizing her passion was education, she returned to teaching English at Concord High School in 1987 and remained at Concord High until she retired in 2010. She also served as the Cheerleading Coach and Senior Class Advisor at Concord High.

Mrs. Ewart was an active member of her community, even when her chronic illnesses made it more challenging. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a member and officer of the Junior Charity League of Concord. During her years of service, the Junior Charity League established a location for the “clothing room”, later becoming the Mariam T Schramm Clothing Room now located at Locke Mill Plaza. She led the League in restoring the Register of Deeds office inside the Historic Courthouse so that the organization would have a permanent meeting location. This office now houses the Cabarrus Arts Council. Mrs. Ewart was a member of the Sidney Lanier Book Club where she served as an officer on multiple occasions. She was also a former Board of Director and Auxiliary President of Old Courthouse Theatre.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to the following organizations: First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 789, Concord, NC, 28026-0789; Junior Charity League of Concord - Mariam Schramn Clothing Room, P. O. Box 1008, Concord, NC 28026-1008; Auditorium Lighting Fund – Old Courthouse Theatre, P.O. Box 1187, Concord, NC 28026-1187.
