Obituary for Joe Andrews
Mr. Joe Max Andrews of Marshdale Ave. passed away at his home Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Funeral services will be 3 PM Friday, September 29, 2017 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Scott Simpson. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Joe was born July 8, 1930 in Concord to the late Fred Graham Andrews and Macy Talley Andrews. He was also preceded in death by sister Ruth Andrews White, and brother William Ross Andrews.
Joe graduated from Concord High School and Evans Business College. He served in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a high speed radio operator from 1951 to 1953. Joe retired from Holding Bros. as operations manager in 1992. He was a life member of Cabarrus Masonic Lodge #720 where he served as past master and a certified lecturer for many years. Joe was also a past District Deputy Grand Master for the 43rd Masonic District, a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple and Oasis Past Masters Unit. Joe was also a founding member of the Piedmont Archeological Society where he was a past president and served many years as secretary and treasurer. His love of Indian Artifacts was well known and he traveled to Austin, TX many times to excavate actual sites with his friend of many years, James C. Overcash. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post #51 serving as past commander, past adjutant and many years on the executive committee. He enjoyed his Tuesday nights with his Legion buddies and Saturday lunches with his Andrews cousins.
Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne Cagle Andrews; daughters, Susan Andrews Brock, Janet Andrews Lentz (Jimmy), and Jill Piper (Tom Churchwell); granddaughters, Jessica Lentz and Lauren Lentz; and by a number of cousins.
